HIGH-PROFILE support for a battle to prevent a waste recycling plant at Pluckley, near Ashford, has come from actor David Jason.
News this week that the Darling Buds of May star had given his verbal backing to the campaign has boosted morale as the village prepares to fight controversial plans for the former brickworks site.
It also brought television crews and the national media back to the parish where 13 years ago they followed the filming of the highly-successful television adaptation of the masterpiece of rural life by local author H E Bates.
As Pop Larkin would say the publicity is "perfick" and has been warmly welcomed by those leading the fight.
Locals fear the plant could bring an additional 100 lorries a day to its narrow roads and that noise from the grinding, crushing and cleaning equipment at the site will be "unbearable".
