PETANQUE players are celebrating news that the Rochester Classic is being revived to commemorate the South East Region League's silver jubilee. There will be a top prize of at least £2,000.
The league, in association with Chatham Historic Dockyard, is hosting the event on August 24-25 for international federation affiliated license holders and an open competition on August 26 for those not in the federation. There will be four separate competitions run over the Bank Holiday weekend at the dockyard with the big one, the Silver Jubilee Open, holding the key to big prize money.
There are 32 places open for teams of four in the Junior Open competition, which will be ideal preparation for the European Junior Championships. A Club Class Triples competition will be held on the Sunday, run on a league and knockout format, for club players. Entry fee is £15 per triple.
On the Bank Holiday Monday the Open Doubles will take place - a friendly doubles for those left standing after the weekend. Entry fee £8 per double.
For priority entry forms register now with Ken Buchan, 1 Highview, Vigo Village, Kent DA13 0RR (e-mail kenbuchan@supanet.com).
