Police appeal after rapist strikes in park
00:00, 31 August 2007
DETECTIVES are urging possible witnesses to come forward following the rape of a woman in a public park.
The 27-year-old victim was attacked in a corner of Victoria Gardens in Chatham.
The spot where the attack took place is in a dip in the grass and is overhung by trees which may have shielded the incident from the view of other park users.
The area is often used by prostitutes and their clients, but it is known the woman who was raped is not a prostitute.
Detectives investigating last Saturday's incident have been scouring CCTV tapes in a bid to identify the attacker.
Det Insp Melanie Brooks said: “We are keen to speak with anyone who may have any information, especially if you may have seen or heard anything suspicious.”
If you were in the park on Saturday in the late afternoon or early evening, call 01634 792490 or CrimeStoppers, anonymously, on 0800 5551111.
