Poundland is attempting to recruit more than 1,000 people to temporary roles in the run up to Christmas - with all team members set for a £25 voucher and increase to their staff discount.
The high street discount retailer, which has once again confirmed it will shut all stores on Boxing day and New Year's Day for the third successive year, is keen to bolster its workforce for the busy festive period.
Temporary shop floor roles will go to around 1,200 people in stores across the UK but these short -term jobs will end come closing time on Christmas Eve.
Where roles are available, says Poundland, some temporary colleagues may be given more permanent positions for the new year.
Simon Wells, Poundland and Dealz’ people director said: “The extra recruits will help us make sure that our stores are great places to work and shop at the busiest time of year.”
As well as giving staff time off on Boxing Day and New Year's Day, as a thank you to all 18,000 colleagues the budget chain is also handing each member of staff a £25 voucher to spend in store between December and January while their regular colleague discount will double from 10% to 20% this month.
"We really appreciate how hard colleagues work during the year and are closing the stores on the extra days over Christmas and New Year so they enjoy a well-deserved break with friends and family,” added Simon Wells.
"The vouchers and extra discounts are our way of saying thank-you and we know they’ll be appreciated."
