The annual No Mow May campaign is back for 2024 - when gardeners are asked to do nothing but let the weeds grow.
Instead of mowing, weeding and strimming Kent residents can give insects a chance to feed and pollinate.
The campaign is run by the charity Plantlife aims to allow wild flowers blossom from May 1 through to early summer.
Organisers say that even leaving a small section of lawn uncut can make a difference to plant and insect life.
To help out, Kent County Council (KCC) departments are putting away their mowers for some of the land they manage to encourage wildlife to flourish.
A KCC statement said: “From highways to country parks, waste sites and KCC-owned land and infrastructure, this year we are building on the great work that has come out of us taking part in No Mow May over the last two years.”
According to a survey carried out after last year’s No Mow May, the area equivalent to more than 500 tennis courts (32 acres) was left untouched.
