LISTENERS across Kent today helped KM-fm make the first ever UK Radio Aid Day a big success.
Nearly 300 commercial radio stations across Britain joined forces to raise millions of pounds for the tsunami appeal.
From 6am until 6pm today some of the biggest names in radio history including Tony Blackburn, Dermot O'Leary, Davina McCall, Chris Evans and Simon Bates were teaming up with celebrities including Kylie Minogue, Tony Blair and Duran Duran to raise money for the children affected by the Asian tsunami and support them as they to start to rebuild their lives and look to the future.
It is thought around 30 million listeners across the UK would tune to the 12-hour extravaganza to create the biggest ever UK radio audience.
Employees of businesses throughout Kent were encouraged to donate an hour of their wages to the fund, and some managers and owners of local businesses went even further and pledged this on behalf of their employees.
Staff at KM-fm also did their bit for the appeal by having a "dress down" day with emplyees donating cash and many donating a hour's wages. There was also a swear box in many of the offices while KM-fm's cruiser crew was out visiting schools.
