Rain fails to dampen picnickers' spirit

Brollies were in big demand at the fourth annual Community Picnic on the Green.
But the rain failed to stop the crowds arriving and hundreds turned up for Walmer Parish Council’s event.
Chairman of the organising group Cllr Christine Orridge said: “People were sheltering under umbrellas and showing the true British spirit.
“It was great to see so many families out for a good time despite the weather and there were plenty of activities for children with fairground rides and a circus skills workshop.”
Admiral The Lord Boyce, Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, was among the people who ignored the rain and visited Walmer Green.
During the picnic there was a competition to win a bike donated by Halfords, with funds raised to be donated to the Deal Memorial Bandstand.
