Chatham Town lost 1-0 at home to Ryman League Division 1 South basement boys Horsham YMCA on Saturday to fall three points adrift of safety with just five games remaining.
The only goal arrived following a goalmouth scramble 15 minutes from time.
Whitstable Town are the side Chatham are chasing after the Oystermen's 3-0 defeat at Leatherhead on Saturday.
All three goals arrived in the final 15 minutes as Town fell to third-bottom ahead of next Saturday's crucial clash with the Chats.
Faversham Town were held 2-2 by Fleet Town and fell to 11th.
With Ray Turner and Clive Walker in temporary charge following Justin Luchford's departure, Town were 2-1 ahead after a double from Tom Hickman (pictured), only to be denied by a stoppage-time equaliser.
Ramsgate's promotion surge was halted by a 2-0 defeat at Corinthian Casuals.
The hosts opened the scoring nine minutes from time before Ollie Gray received a straight red-card for a professional foul and Liam Quinn was dismissed after a second-booking for dissent, with the hosts wrapping up the points from a stoppage-time penalty.
The Rams are eighth and five points adrift of the play-off places having played two games more than the side they are chasing.
Sittingbourne earned a morale-boosting 2-1 win at Worthing to go 10th.
The hosts took the lead on 10 minutes but two goals in four minutes from Ryan Golding around the half-hour secured the points for the Brickies.
