Chatham have a 100 per cent record in Ryman League Division 1 North after a 4-0 win over Cheshunt

Maidstone United finally got off the mark at the third attempt in Ryman League Division 1 South with a 5-1 victory at Crawley Down on Saturday.

Shaun Welford led the way for the Stones with a second-half hat-trick as Jay Saunders' side swept aside the league new boys.

Folkestone Invicta and Ramsgate also recorded good away victories. Folkestone were 2-1 winners at Whyteleafe thanks to a brace from new signing Stuart King while Ramsgate are up to fifth place in the table after their 2-1 success at Chipstead, where Mitchell Sherwood scored twice, the second a last-minute penalty.

But it was a bad day for the four other Kent sides in Ryman 1 South. Faversham Town are only one place off the bottom after their 4-0 defeat at early-leaders Whitehawk while Whitstable suffered their first defeat, going down 2-0 at The Belmont to Merstham.

There were also home defeats for Hythe Town, who lost 3-2 to Bognor Regis, and Sittingbourne who went down to their first defeat, 1-0 to Dulwich Hamlet.

Chatham Town are the only side with a 100 per cent record after three games in Division 1 North following their 4-0 home win over Cheshunt. Matt Newman scored twice for the Chats and Gary Tilley and John Pilbeam were also on target.

Thamesmead scored first at Great Wakering through Rikki Cable but eventually lost 2-1.

In Ryman Premier, Margate had a 500-plus crowd for the visit of Lowestoft Town but failed to send their fans home happy after sliding to a 4-1 defeat.

There was better news for Cray Wanderers however, who gained their first win by the same scoreline at Leatherhead, where Leigh Bremner banged in a second-half hat-trick.
