POLICE hunting a knife-wielding attacker who sexually assaulted a teenage girl have been leafleting the area in the hope of discovering vital clues.
The attack took place on an isolated footpath near a leisure centre at Lordswood, Chatham.
As the young student approached the entrance to the path she saw a man jogging ahead of her. She continued walking for a little while and was then approached by the man.
He produced a knife and grabbed her. He then made her walk further into the woods where he carried out his attack.
The man then told the victim to walk further into the woods and he disappeared.
The incident occurred between 11.30am and 11.50am on Friday, September 17. Police officers have been patrolling the area around North Dane Way, handing out leaflets and asking passers-by and dog walkers if they had been in the vicinity at the time.
A spokesman for Medway Police said: "This was a particularly disturbing assault that took place in broad daylight where a number of people are known to walk their dogs and also where people go jogging.
"We need to find this man before he has an opportunity to strike again. The offender is between 30 and 35 about 6ft tall of average build and was clean shaven. He was wearing a red fleece, blue jeans and a navy blue woolly hat."
The spokesman added: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault or who may have information relating to any recent suspicious activity in the area."
Anyone who may have seen something or who may have information in connection with this incident is asked to contact Medway Police on 01634 884252 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. All calls to Crimestoppers are free and are treated in the strictest of confidence.
