A HUNT is continuing for a lorry which failed to stop after being involved in a crash with a car in which a woman was killed and two other people seriously hurt.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash on the A2 between Canterbury and Dover shortly before 8pm on Friday.

The lorry is believed to have been damaged in the incident. Police have urged the driver to contact them.

The crash happened at Lydden, near the Coldred Hill junction. A red ford Escort was travelling in the direction of Canterbury when it was in collision with the HGV.

A 42-year-old Margate woman, a rear seat passenger in the car, died at the scene. The car driver, a 22-year-old man from Margate, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.

An 18-year-old passenger in the car, a man from Margate, also sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. Both men were taken to Ashford's William Harvey Hospital.

Police Insp Paul Sellwood said: “We are anxious to speak to anyone who has information regarding this collision.

"The exact circumstances of this incident are not clear, and the smallest piece of information may be a vital clue.

"The driver of the HGV left the scene, and it may be that the vehicle sustained damage. If anyone saw a damaged HGV driving along the A2 in either direction on Friday evening, or has any other information, they are asked contact the Serious Crash Investigation Unit on 01622 798535.”

Alternatively call Crimestoppers Hotline on 0800 555111. Calls to Crimestoppers are free, you do not have to give your name and you may be eligible for a reward.

Police have not yet released any name of the woman who was killed.

* ONE man was cut free from the wreckage after four cars and a lorry were involved in a crash on the London-bound carriageway of the M20 between junctions two and three on Sunday. Kent Air Ambulance attended but no one was seriously hurt.
