Shane Byrne continues to struggle in World Superbike Championships

Shane Byrne collected 13 more World Superbike points during the fourth round of the series in Assen, Holland.
An 11th and an eighth place finish leaves Sittingbourne’s Byrne 13th in the rider standings and still with plenty of room for improvement.
The Team Sterilgarda rider was slowed down following two crashes in race one and lost three places, which had one stage left him trailing in 17th.
Byrne (pictured right) managed to rescue an 11th place finish after over-taking a handful of racers and in race two, despite another crash losing him time, he went three places better.
Byrne said: “Unfortunately practice influences the race a little bit too much. We have to improve the machine because once again my racing pace was very good. I got a good clean start for the first time this season. Finally there was no incident in front of me. Nonetheless, I lost contact with the leading pack due to Muggeridge’s crash later in the race.
“I had to push harder and did overtake Neukirchner. Unfortunately, I made a small mistake just when I was going faster and I couldn’t pass Checa. As a consequence, I lost the opportunity to finish seventh”.
Team manager Marco Borciani said: “We’ll get back to work starting next week as we have to improve where necessary. We could have got a better result in race two though. Unfortunately, the outcome of the practice sessions was not the one we had expected."
