Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League round-up
09:40, 29 August 2011
Hartley Country Club are the new Shepherd Neame Kent League champions.
Although they were involved in a rain-affected match at Bromley on Saturday, the eight points Hartley secured from the match were enough to clinch their first Premier Division title since 2008.
Only nine overs were possible at Hayes Lane where Hartley reached 42-1, with young Kent wicketkeeper Sam Billings (pictured) on 20 not out, before rain prevented any further play.
The only Premier Division game to complete was a reduced overs contest between Sevenoaks Vine and Bexley. A late start reduced the match to 25-overs-per-side and Sevenoaks Vine invited Bexley to bat.
In difficult conditions Bexley reached 112-5 from their allocation with skipper Jack Bell finishing 42 not out. The home side successfully chased down their target in 13 overs for the loss of six wickets, and their 16-point reward lifted Sevenoaks Vine to second place in the table, one point above Bromley.
Down at the bottom, the "Incomplete" outcome of the only other game to start means that Sibton Park and The Mote will both play in Division 1 next year.
The Lyminge side invited The Mote to bat with the game beginning on time. But the weather then intervened and The Mote, needing a win to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive, had to try and contrive a victory and declared after 43 overs on 155-9, Mathew White top scoring with 44. Tim Smith and Andy Allon took three wickets apiece for Sibton Park, who only batted for 19.2 overs before further ended play for the day with Park on 97-2. Tim Bishop finished unbeaten on 48.
Beckenham secured the Division 1 title on Saturday and will be joined in the Premier Division next year by Canterbury following their maximum points victory over Gore Court.
