Shepherd Neame Kent League round-up
14:21, 27 August 2012
Hartley Country Club have won the Shepherd Neame Kent League Premier Division for the third time in five seasons.
The defending champions wrapped up another title with a five-wicket victory over second-placed Sevenoaks Vine on Saturday.
In a match reduced to 20-overs-per-side because of rain, Sevenoaks set a useful target of 142-5 thanks mainly to a hard-hitting 84 from Ollie Howick.
Although they lost opener Sam Billings early on, the rest of the top order ensured that Hartley kept up with the required rate and they clinched the game - and the title - with one over to spare.
The only other match to produce a definite result was at Canterbury where a seven-wicket defeat to Lordswood has left the home side staring relegation in the face with one game left to play.
After being inserted by the visitors Canterbury started solidly enough thanks to Dominic Chambers (53), James Lilley (41) and Tim Bishop (34), but they received little support and the home side eventually finished on 183-8 from their 50 overs. Matt Greenwood then led Lordswood's run chase with an unbeaten half century while Lyndon Lockhart chipped in with 47 as they reached their target with 11 overs to spare.
The other three matches were all incomplete. The only century of the afternoon came at Bromley where Wayne Morgan hit an unbeaten 134 for the home side out of their total of 235-3 against Tunbridge Wells. The latter then reached 75-4 in reply, with Alex Williams scoring 47, before rain ended play.
Faisal Shahid scored 67 for Blackheath as they were bowled out for 202 by Beckenham, with rain preventing any further play, and there was a similar outcome at Bickley Park. Visitors Bexley reached 224-6 at tea, with Greg Bane making 74 and George Wells 54, when the heavens opened.
In Division 1, Sibton Park and Whitstable both clinched promotion on Saturday and will play in the Premier Division in 2013.
