A Shepway man has been jailed indefinitely for trying to murder his ex in a victious attack at their home.
Ian Deer, 24, who lived in Blenheim Drive, Hawkinge, admitted attempted murder of his then 19-year-old partner last June.
The judge described Deer as a dangerous offender and imposed an indeterminate eight-year sentence meaning he can only be considered for parole after that time.
Senior investigating officer DI Trevor Fleming said: "This was a determined and vicious attack, which during my 29 years I have not seen the like.
"The victim showed a great deal of courage throughout and was with me in the court this morning to see this sentence, which reflected the very serious nature of the offence.
"This brave young woman is now rebuilding her life and I wish her well.
"Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate will continue pursue domestic offenders such as this in supporting Kent Police's intolerance of Domestic Abuse."
