Shooting victim hampers police investigation

00:00, 10 January 2002

THE victim of a drive-by shooting is still refusing to talk to Canterbury detectives about the incident in which he lost an eye. The man is believed to have been shotin the head from a vehicle while sitting in a Peugeot car near Upstreet post office.

The man later admitted himself to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital before being transferred to the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford where he underwent surgery. Surgeons were unable to save his damaged eye but his condition is described as "comfortable."

The shooting, on the afternoon of December 28, sparked a response from armed police who patrolled the district. A police guard on the victim, who is still in hospital, has been mounted but detectives say he is still not talking to them about the incident which is hampering the investigation.

Police have appealed to witnesses to the shooting to come forward. Anyone with information should call detectives on 01227 817154 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
