Kent's super blue moon
08:30, 31 January 2018
The moon is set to be flooded with colour tonight as a range of lunar events are expected.
Skywatchers can expect to see an amalgamation of a super moon and blue moon - as long as weather conditions are clear.
In a rare combination of lunar phenomena, Americans on the other side of the Atlantic will be able to see a blood moon as well.
A blue moon is the name given to the second full moon in a month.
A supermoon is when the moon appears larger and brighter, because it is closer than normal to the earth.
Both will be visible from the UK in the early hours. It is thought the best time to see it will be just after 12.30am as this is when the moon is at its highest.
But sadly, the blood moon - a total eclipse which causes a reddish hue - will occur during our daylight hours and we won’t be able to see it.
The next total lunar eclipse visible from the UK will be on Friday, July 27 this year.
