Kent workers went to bed with a covering of snow last night - and woke up with slush!

Snow flurries lasted for several hours, settling in parts of Kent, and leaving a couple of inches of the white stuff in places.

This morning's damp and grey weather is expected to improve over the next couple of hours though, with some sunshine appearing across the county this afternoon, raising temperatures to around five degrees C.

Helen Chivers, a forecaster at the Met Office, said the weather would continue to get better: "Through the weekend we should find it turning a little bit milder, there will be a lot of dry weather around over the weekend, some sunshine by day but rather chilly at night, with a touch of frost. Temperatures tomorrow should get up to around five degrees and by Sunday, when they may be a little bit more cloud around and the odd spot of rain in the wind, we should have temperatures up to about nine degrees."

Those of us grumbling about how bad the weather has been recently are actually right too. According to the Met Office, temperatures are below average for this time of year.

Ms Chivers said: "We've been seeing temperatures of about four or five and the average is slightly higher than that, probably closer to the temperatures that we expect to see later in the weekend and into the start of next week - around eight or nine degrees."

Unfortunately, this year's cold snap may not be over yet though, as the weather could take a turn for the worse at the end of next week, with temperatures expected to plummet again and another chance of snow.
