Southeastern's new Twitter feed makes for unhappy reading for passengers - with more than 300 posts about problems with its network in just two days.

They include one extraordinary update about this morning's 11.30am Charing Cross to Tunbridge Wells service.

It was said to be running no fewer than 720 minutes late - roughly the time it takes to walk between the two stations.

Southeastern steamed into the 21st Century earlier this week, launching a mobile app and Twitter account to keep customers up to date.

But the train operator's social networking feed has been inundated with a series of posts about delays, cancellations and alterations.

Its app, which works on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, gives passengers the current status of each of its 12 main routes.

It also provides running information about Southeastern's 2,000-plus daily services, as well as details of current and scheduled engineering works.

A spokesman for the rail firm said: "One of our priorities is to find ways to provide information to our passengers when and where they want and need it.

"Running a complex rail network means providing up to the minute information during times of disruption can be challenging. We hope passengers find these new tools useful."
