A second half equaliser from Jake Hobbs rescued a deserved point for Welling in Blue Square South on Saturday.

Hobbs smashed home Sam Hurrell’s left wing cross in the 61 minute after the Wings had trailed early on.

Staines took a fifth minute lead when Scott Taylor set up Howard Newton to score beyond keeper Charlie Mitten.

Welling could have been 3-0 down inside the first 10 minutes as Taylor dragged his shot wide and then the same player was denied by Mitten after a lapse in concentration from Steve Perkins.

With manager Andy Ford at a family wedding, assistant Lee Protheroe made two changes at half-time which included substituting himself. Added to a change of formation, it mean the Wings enjoyed more possession after the break.

It still needed another fine stop from Mitten to keep them in the game, before Hobbs equalised with his first league goal in five matches.

It could have got better for the visitors but referee Adrian Gillett let Gareth Risbridger off without punishment for a late kick at Jack Parkinson.

Both teams had chances to win it late on although the Wings were indebted to Michael Dean’s late headed clearance as former Welling defender Michael Kamara seemed poised to head in.

A Warren McBean double led Bromley to a 3-1 victory over Dorchester.

McBean gave his side an early lead in the fourth minute and, after Dorchester had equalised through Matt Groves, added a second on 32 minutes. Ryan Hall netted the home side's third goal after 90 minutes.
