A HOST of local sports stars have joined forces to launch the Kent Sports Volunteers Project.
Charlton defender Hermann Hreidarsson and England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones helped to launch the initiative, which aims to get more volunteers involved in sport.
The CD-Rom guide features video clips from some of the county’s most recognisable stars, including athlete Steve Backley and Kent cricket captain David Fulton, giving their accounts of how volunteers helped them reach their full sporting potential.
The scheme has attracted around 150 volunteers in its first year who fill vital roles in sports clubs and schemes.
Volunteers enjoy many advantages in return. They receive free training in first aid, working with the disabled and child protection issues, and, thanks to Stagecoach volunteers in Thanet, free transport to and from their placements.
