Still time to enter £1,000 photo competition

13:11, 20 October 2005

THERE is still time to put your photographic skills to the test and win your sports club a share of £1,000.

The Kent Sports Volunteers Project has extended the closing date for its photographic competition to November 2.

The aim of the competition, supported by the Kent Messenger Group, is to promote the good work of sports volunteers in the county. Cricketer Mark Saggers and Faversham and Mid Kent MP Hugh Robertson backed the competition by volunteering themselves as a photographer and cleaner.

KSV project co-ordinator Simon Harris explained: "Volunteering plays a crucial role in the development of sport. It is a truly rewarding experience, not only benefiting the club or organisation, but also the individual.

"Volunteering can help develop skills for use at college, university or the workplace."

Winning photographers will earn their sports clubs a share of the £1,000 prize fund, while a selection of the best pictures will be shown at an exhibition.

The aim of the competition is to recognise not only the photographers but the volunteers who help out with local sports clubs or organisations.

All prize money will therefore be awarded to the sports club or organisation featured in the photograph, rather than individuals.
