Suspicious charity worker warning
00:00, 22 March 2002
POLICE in Thanet are appealing for information about a suspicious charity collector. A woman knocked on the door of a house in West Dumpton Lane, Ramsgate, at about 9.30pm on Sunday.
She told the owner that she was collecting for a cerebral palsy charity. The owner recognised the woman by sight and refused to give her any money.
A police spokesman said: ”The householder was very suspicious. She had seen the woman around locally and did not believe her story about collecting for charity. Also, 9.30 at night is a strange time to be knocking on doors.”
The woman is in her mid 30s with red hair. She was wearing a black coat, black trousers and a black woolly hat.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Margate Police.
