Tables turned on Emily in The Family
14:02, 22 October 2008
The ups and downs of the Hughes family from Harbledown continue to be played out on our TV screens tonight.
Channel 4’s fly-on-the-wall docu-drama The Family is now in its fifth episode, with mum Jane and dad Simon continuing their war of attrition with daughter Emily, 19.
Tonight sees the parents turn the tables on their adolescent offspring, after she borrows her mother’s clothes without asking permission.
Simon told kentishgazette.co.uk it was a time when they decided to try a new approach to disciplining her: “You’ll see me and Jane ask Emily to write the rules down for herself.
“We’re basically saying, you tell us what it is that you expect us to do so we have an understanding of where you are.”

The show, which is broadcast at 9pm, has three more episodes to run after this week.
Channel 4 has also commissioned 15-half hour episodes for their Schools programmes, focusing on the children’s lives.
The first of these will be broadcast next month.
