Tasty award looming for farmers' market
12:26, 26 January 2009
The monthly Rochester Farmers’ Market has been nominated for a Taste of Kent award.
The market, in Corporation Street, Rochester has been shortlisted in the best farmers’ market category along with Cliftonville Farmers’ Market and Shipbourne Farmers’ Market. The award is sponsored by Hadlow College.
Some of the county’s top food and drink producers and retailers have been put forward for the awards. The judging will include mystery shopper visits and a tasting panel.
The winners will be announced on February 26 at a ceremony at Leeds Castle.
Medway Council’s portfolio holder for strategic development and economic growth, Cllr Jane Chitty, said: “This is wonderful news. The importance of these awards is that the public chooses those nominated.
“People are becoming more aware of where their food comes from and the healthy options available and visitors to the market have recognised quality, choice and value.”
The next Rochester Farmers’ Market is in the Corporation Street car park on Sunday, February 15 from 9am-1pm.
