A MOTHER and three young children were left terrified after a bottle was hurled at their car on the way to a Scout meeting.
Sarah Meredith was driving along Borstal Street, Rochester, when yobs threw the glass bottle at her car from about 20 feet above them.
Sarah, her 12-year-old daughter and her two friends narrowly escaped injury as the bottle landed on the bonnet and smashed over the windscreen.
The terrifying attack happened at 7pm on Friday, November 10.
Sarah’s husband David said: “If it had been dropped a second later, or the car was travelling just a little faster, it could easily have come straight through the windscreen. All in the car could have been seriously injured or killed.”
Sarah and the children managed to get away from the area and dialled 999. They were told a patrol car would immediately be sent to the area – but they later found out that it wasn’t.
Mr Meredith said: “Gangs of youths are allowed to roam our towns and streets and villages, terrorising decent people with this sort of action and our police force does not find it important enough to send a patrol car.
“I have complained to Kent Police and they do seem to now be investigating the
matter thoroughly and have been in close contact with me.”
Ch Insp Peter Wedlake, from Medway Police, said: “This was reckless behaviour that could have caused more serious consequences, and I am relieved no one was hurt. It was our intention to send a patrol but they were all engaged on other calls at that time.
“By the time a patrol became free, there were other calls that were deemed to be in more urgent need of attendance due to the lapse of time from the original incident.
“We have full details and are investigating with the assistance of our neighbourhood policing team for that area. If anyone has any information as to the identity of the offender, they should contact us.”
