A hat and teapot thief and a hit-and-run drink-driver are among some of the people to be ordered to appear in front of Kent's courts.

Pensioner spared jail

Daniel Patrick Finbar Gilham, of no fixed address, stole a hat, teapot and solar light ornament worth £10 from a charity shop in New Road, Gravesend.

He also damaged a CCTV monitor and cables worth £300 and assaulted a man and a woman at another shop in New Road. He then assaulted two police officers at North Kent Police Station. And he failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 70-year-old to 56 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. He must also pay £200 compensation, a £50 fine, £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

Nightclub thug sentenced

Lloyd Buckley, of Hertsfield Avenue, Strood, assaulted a man at a nightclub in Canterbury Street, Gillingham, causing him actual bodily harm. He also had cocaine on him.

Magistrates sentenced the 23-year-old to 26 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £700 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Driver over the limit

Stephen Catruc, of College Avenue, Gillingham, drove a Fiat Punto in York Avenue, Gillingham, and gave a breath test of 95 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 26-year-old from driving for two years and ordered him to carry out 70 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Gravesend man banned from driving

Anthony Paul Martin, of Nursery Mews, Gravesend, failed to do a breath test in Gravesend.

Magistrates banned the 45-year-old from driving for 20 months and ordered him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Woman hit with driving ban

Caroline Sarah Clarke, of Tredegar Road, Dartford, drove a Volkswagen Golf in a supermarket car park in Dartford, and gave a breath test of 114 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

On another occasion she also failed to do a breath test in Gravesend.

Magistrates sentenced the 37-year-old to 140 days in prison, suspended for 18 months, and banned her from driving for four years. She must also pay £500 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Another driving offence

Jake William Young, of Powlett Road, Strood, took a Vauxhall Vectra without the owner’s consent and drove it in Ratcliffe Highway, Rochester, giving a breath test of 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 21-year-old from driving for 18 months and ordered him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay a £110 fine and £85 costs.

Man has licence revoked

Peter Charles Misselbrook, of Brown Road, Gravesend, drove a DAF lorry in Waterdales, Northfleet, and gave a blood test of 156 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrammes.

Magistrates banned the 40-year-old from driving for 20 months. He must also pay a £250 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Man behind bars

Christopher Gavin Walker, of Roehampton Close, Gravesend, damaged a police cell and assaulted a police officer at North Kent Police station, attempted to damage a window at an address in Beresford Road, Gravesend, and assaulted a police officer in Gravesend.

Magistrates sentenced the 32-year-old to 88 days in prison. He must also pay £280 compensation, £170 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Fuel thief reprimanded

Jake Kiley, of Paddock Drive, Rochester, made off without paying for diesel worth £76.94 from a service station in Anthony’s Way, Rochester, drove away without paying for diesel worth £72.21 from a service station in Coldharbour Road, Northfleet and again fled without paying for diesel worth £73.18 from the same service station.

Magistrates sentenced the 25-year-old to 56 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. He must also pay £221 compensation.

Shoplifter discovers taste for Easter

Reginald Matthews, of Kirby Road, Dartford, stole Easter items and toilet rolls from a shop in Colney Road, Dartford. He also stole meat from the same shop and took meat from a shop in Hawley Road, Dartford.

Magistrates sentenced the 52-year-old to six months in prison, suspended for six months. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Man assaulted police officer

Robin Hans Wayne, of Beverley Close, Gillingham, used racially aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a police officer and two special constables in High Street, Rochester. He also assaulted the same police officer at Medway Police Station.

Magistrates sentenced the 32-year-old to 84 days in prison. He must also pay £200 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Northfleet criminal caught with four grams of coke

Steven Michael Smith, of Hartshill Road, Northfleet, had four grams of cocaine and 10 grams of cannabis on him in Cygnet Gardens, Gravesend.

Magistrates sentenced the 26-year-old to 120 days in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

Grocery thief strikes in Gillingham

Peter John Solly, of Canterbury Street, Gillingham, stole a shopping basket, detergent, coffee and cheese worth £90 from a shop in Gillingham Road, Gillingham.

On 9 May 2017 he stole meat and cheese worth £58.17 from a shop in Maritime Way, Chatham.

Magistrates sentenced the 39-year-old to 90 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. He must also pay £90 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Hit and run drink-driver faces several charges

Sandra Paula, of Home View, Sittingbourne, drove a Vauxhall Astra in Swan Close, Sittingbourne, otherwise than in accordance with a licence and with no insurance. She also failed to stop the vehicle after a road accident where damage was caused to another vehicle and gave a breath test of 99 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 45-year-old from driving for 24 months and ordered her to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. She must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Man spared jail

Danny John Lorentson, of no fixed address, stole meat and a wire basket worth £71 from a supermarket in High Street, Chatham, stole meat and a wire basket worth £48 from the same supermarket took a shaver worth £50 from a shop in the Pentagon Shopping Centre, Chatham. He also stole a hair dryer and straighteners worth £42.50 from the same shop on another occasion and stole a hair dryer and straighteners worth £58 from the same shop.

Magistrates sentenced Lorentson to 90 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. He must also pay £269 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Teen behind bars for 11 shoplifting charges

Robert Gabor, of Grange Hill, Chatham, stole two fragrances worth £50 from a shop in High Street, Chatham. He also stole three fragrances worth £60 from a shop in the Pentagon Shopping Centre, Chatham.

He also took the following:

• Three fragrances worth £110 from a shop in High Street, Chatham. He also stole three more fragrances worth £110 from the same shop on another occasion.
• Two bottles of perfume worth £50 from another shop in High Street, Chatham.
• Two coats worth £89.98 from a shop in the Pentagon Shopping Centre.
• Five leather jackets worth £149.95 from the same shop.
• He failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.
• Fragrances worth £29.98 from a shop in High Street, Chatham, and had a quantity of diamorphine in his possession.
• Fragrances worth £125 from another shop in High Street, Chatham.
• Baby milk worth £80 from another shop in the Pentagon Shopping Centre.
• Four jackets worth £112 from a shop in High Street, Gillingham.
• He failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 19-year-old to 120 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Rochester man behind bars

Denzil Stewart, of Cecil Road, Rochester, used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour and assaulted a woman in St Michael’s Road, Sittingbourne.

He also failed to surrender to bail at Mid Kent Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse. As well as that he stole two PlayStation controllers worth £85 from a shop in The Forum, Sittingbourne, assaulted a police officer in Cecil Avenue, Strood, and assaulted a police officer in Gillingham.

Magistrates sentenced the 24-year-old to 180 days in prison. He must also pay a £50 fine and £235 compensation.

Dartford shoplifter with sweet tooth sentenced

Adam Lee Roberts, of Cornwall Road, Dartford, stole confectionary worth £35 from a shop in Colney Drive, Dartford, confectionary worth £50 from the same shop and various items worth £12 from a shop in The Orchards, Dartford.

He also stole confectionary worth £50 from a shop in Henderson Drive, Dartford and he also took 29 packs of sweets worth £31.70 from a supermarket in Instone Road, Dartford.

Magistrates sentenced the 30-year-old to 100 days in prison. He must also pay £166 compensation.

Herne Bay man sentenced

Justin Stephen Eastwood, of Rowland Drive, Herne Bay, used violence to secure entry and damaged two glass door panels worth £200 at another property in Rowland Drive.

Magistrates sentenced the 44-year-old to 90 days in prison, suspended for 12 months, ordered him to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months and gave him a three month curfew to remain at home between 7pm and 7am daily. The curfew runs until 7 August 2017. He must also pay £310 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Abusive man given curfew

Charlie George Trevor Silk, of Thanet Way, Whitstable, used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a man in Herne Bay, causing him to fear violence.

Magistrates ordered the 21-year-old to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months and gave him a three month curfew to remain at an address in Collins Road, Herne Bay, between 7pm and 7am daily. The curfew runs until 7 August 2017. He must also pay £310 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Cameron McLachlan, of Arlington, Ashford, assaulted a woman in Bucksford Lane, Ashford.

Magistrates sentenced the 18-year-old to 120 days in prison. He must also pay £100 compensation.

Magistrates sentenced the 34-year-old to 90 days in prison, suspended for two years, and banned him from driving for three years. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

James Thomas Edward Renshaw, of Jemmett Road, Ashford, broke into the garage of a property in Lime Close, Ashford, and stole fishing equipment. He also broke into the garage of a property in Poplar Close, Ashford, and stole household and electrical items.

Magistrates banned the 48-year-old from driving for 18 months. She must also pay a £250 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Burglar behind bars

Craig Shane Dunn, of Stembrook Court, Dover, stole charity money from a bank in Market Square, Dover, he burgled a shop in Biggin Street, Dover, with the intent to steal and took meat worth £18.30 from a supermarket in Charlton Green, Dover.

Magistrates sentenced the 24-year-old to 90 days in prison. He must also pay £39 compensation.

Oscar Peters, of Seabrook Road, Hythe, assaulted a man in Somerset Road, Folkestone.

Magistrates ordered the 19-year-old to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £350 compensation.

Offender given unpaid work

Leon Anthony Brian Norris, of Sugar Loaf Walk, Folkestone, assaulted a man and used racially aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour at a bar in Tontine Street, Folkestone.

Magistrates ordered the 28-year-old to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £200 compensation, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Criminal record for Canterbury resident

Taylor Neil Houston, of Gordon Road, Canterbury, assaulted a man on the A28, Canterbury.

On 18 April 2017 he assaulted a woman in High Street, Canterbury. He also failed to surrender to bail at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 22-year-old to 51 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.
