Threatened water gala goes ahead next year
00:00, 12 October 2001
THE future of Broadstairs Water Gala is assured and the show will go ahead on Wednesday, August 21, next year. The news has been was announced by newly-elected chairman Bernard Kilvington, former mayor of Broadstairs and St Peter’s.
Mr Kilvington said that since the annual meeting in September he had received “so many offers of support that he could confidently confirm that the future of the water gala was secure. The future of the event had looked in doubt when the small band of dedicated volunteers of the committee announced their resignation on water gala day in August. They said then that mounting rules and regulations imposed on them made it impossible to continue, particularly as the event was attracting huge crowds of up to 100,000.
The first fund raising event organised by the new committee is a trivia quiz at Broadstairs Pavilion on Friday, October 26. Tickets are £4 and include a supper. Further information from Mave Saunders 01843 864077 or email info@broadstairswatergala.co.uk.
