Three men in a boat save the day
08:47, 28 April 2008
A young man was arrested after being pulled out of the River Medway in a dramatic rescue.
It is not clear how the man got into the water but police officers had thrown a life aid to him as he clung to a rope attached to the river wall.
The incident happened shortly after noon yesterday, at The Esplanade, Rochester, close to Rochester Bridge.
People who spotted the man in the water also tried to throw him a lifeline but police then enlisted the help of three men in a nearby dinghy.
They steered towards the river wall and were able to pull the man out of the river.
They took him to the nearby floating pier where officers arrested him.
The man’s family seemed to be at the scene and when he was taken back to dry land one man gave him a hug.
