Met Office issues warning of heavy showers and thunderstorms from 1pm
05:00, 20 July 2022
The heatwave will be coming to an end as the Met Office warns of heavy showers and thunderstorms predicted for later today.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the south of the country from 1pm.
It comes after blistering heat hit the county, causing a number of problems for residents.
Yesterday a series of fires broke out on the hottest day of the year in the Dartford area as crews battled three separate blazes.
Twelve fire engines were at the scene of a huge field fire on a housing development near the Dartford Crossing and the same number fought a blaze off the A2 near Dartford.
However, the Met Office said the heavy rain was due this afternoon.
The agency said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms may bring disruption during Wednesday afternoon.
"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."
The county was until today under an extreme weather warning with temperatures expected to hit 38C.
Despite the showers and thunderstorm, temperature is still expected to hit 25C today.
