A BOY of two is fighting for his life after being hit by a lorry as he crossed a busy main road.

The toddler was in collision with the HGV at the bottom of Sundridge Hill, on the A228 at Cuxton, near Strood, at lunchtime on Wednesday.

He was flown to the Royal London Hospital by Kent Air Ambulance and then transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital today. His condition is described as “critical but stable”. His parents are believed to be at his bedside.

The road was closed in both directions for more than four hours while an investigation team was called in to examine the scene.

Villager Lindsay Clark said she had written to her MP calling for action to reduce the number of accidents there.

“There have been far too many accidents on that stretch of road,” she said. “Not only should the speed limit be lowered, there should also be more crossing facilities.”
