Travellers heading for London tomorrow are being warned to prepare for travel disruption with no tubes expected to run across the city making roads and other transport options extremely busy.

London Underground strikes are taking place on Thursday, which will impact both the underground and some overground services, Transport for London is warning.

Those heading for the capital, say public transport planners, should avoid London Underground stations because there will be either no or very limited tube services while buses are expected to be considerably more crowded as a result.

While a full service is expected on the overground, trains may not stop at those stations shared with London Underground.

Despite having called off this month's national rail strikes, RMT members working on London's underground network intend to continue with industrial action this week in a dispute with bosses over job cuts and pension arrangements.

The union said negotiations with TfL have broken down and its members were left with no choice but to continue with the walk-out.

General secretary Mick Lynch said: "TfL have missed a golden opportunity to make progress in these negotiations and avoid strike action on Thursday.

"Our members are resolute in their determination to see a just settlement to this jobs and pensions dispute. And they will continue their industrial campaign for as long as it takes.

"TfL need to start making compromises and work with the union to reach a deal that works for staff and avoids further disruption to the lives of passengers."
