Up to 1,000 Gillingham fans rush to grab tickets for Chesterfield League 2 decider
08:00, 06 May 2011
An army of Gillingham supporters 1,000-strong will travel to Chesterfield to back their team on Saturday.
The Gills were allocated 1,000 tickets for the match and the few remaining are expected to be snapped up before the ticket office closes on Friday at 4pm.
Gillingham need to pick up at least a point against Chesterfield and hope that either Stevenage or Torquay slip up in their matches.
The League 2 fixture has been sold out for home fans since the start of the week and it should ensure a full house of around 10,000 at the 2bnet Stadium.
It is a game boss Andy Hessenthaler (pictured) can’t wait to get involved in.
"I just hope we do what we have been doing recently and put on a performance away from home," he said.
"I am excited and at the end of the day it could be a lot worse. Some teams are fighting relegation and that’s not somewhere you want to be.
"The fans will be right behind us. I am sure everyone was happy when we went to Rotherham and won and then everyone was disappointed at the weekend."
