ICE and snow are still causing a few problems across Kent and forecasters are predicting that there is probably more to come during the next 24 hours.

Today's rush hour in the county was not as bad has predicted but motorists and commuters still faced problems. Many schoools are closed for the second day running.

There were a number of accidents in the county on Wednesday, including a multi-vehicle pile-up on the M2 between Faversham and Sittingbourne. No one was badly injured in the incident.

Three or four inches of snow fell across the whole of the county on Wednesday, causing the usual road and rail chaos. There were cancellations and delays to many train services from both mainline and outlying stations.

Kent County Council highways gritters have been working overtime to make the roads safe, but their grit turned to slush which then froze in the sub-zero conditions. In Ashford this brought the ring road to a virtual standstill.

Patrolling police officers assisted motorists to push their cars up slight inclines when their tyres could gain no purchase on the frozen roads.

Kent Police are warning drivers to take extra care. Meanwhile, shoppers have been wearing hats, scarves and gloves to brave the chilly weather which was welcomed by children who had fun with snowball fights.
