The fastest-expanding companies in Kent have been revealed at the MegaGrowth 50 business breakfast.

Energy-efficient construction specialists Lawtech boosted their turnover by 390.5% over the last four years to be crowned Kent’s top firm in the 2013 list.

Representatives of the county's top-performing businesses gathered at Turkey Mill, Maidstone, to hear the announcement of the much-anticipated results.

For the first time, MegaGrowth 50 also recognised companies with exceptional growth in staff levels and exports over the last four years.

Kitchen furniture retailer Crown Products from Herne Bay picked up the inaugural staff prize, with a growth of 243.7%.

Printing company the Delga Group, based in Strood, boosted their export sales by 669% to put themselves top of the pile in Kent's international trade stakes.

Yet it was Lawtech who have the prestige of No.1 status in the long-standing turnover list and executives at the event might be forgiven for expecting the winners to be picking up awards for some time.

Bosses at firm - which has completed major projects in Glasgow, Manchester, East Anglia and south London - expect to be riding on a wave of success in the near future, predicting a tripling in size over the next three years.

Government targets on energy efficiency have been singled out as the driving force behind the company’s vast growth.

Managing director David Lawrence said: “We are set for massive growth. What we have seen in the last three years isn’t even close to what we will see in the future.

“The growth will continue and in three years time we will probably be expecting to triple in size. This will be driven by the government and utility companies driving to make people energy efficient.”
