SINGLE men, listen up. Ditch the application form for Paddy McGuinness’ Take Me Out.
Abandon the solitary supermarket shopping trips.
You’ve probably as much chance of meeting Mrs Right loitering by the baked beans aisle as I have of enrolling in Hogwarts anyway.
Instead of such fanciful missions of amour, there’s a far easier route to striking up a rapport with members of the opposite sex. Head for your nearest Champneys Resort.
It’s not part of the packages available at the luxury spa chain’s four resorts, mind, though they’re probably missing a neat trick. Surely there’s room for romance among the multitude of mind, body and soul packages you’d come to expect from a name synonymous with health and wellbeing.
You don’t even need to dress to impress. Just slip into the standard issue robe and slippers and head straight for breakfast or lunch. Anyone travelling alone at a Champneys Resort is offered the chance to sit with like-minded individuals during all meal times and, with the predominantly female clientele, single men are bound to make a welcome and notable change of table guest.
With everyone as chilled as a snowman in Siberia, it won’t take much to break the ice. But in all seriousness, the simple idea of ensuring no-one has to sit alone at meal times if they so choose is representative of the attention to detail Champneys embraces to ensure guests can’t help but have a relaxing and restorative stay.
With almost 90 years’ experience under its belt, this particular Hertfordshire hotel’s holistic concept may have expanded its services since it was first opened as a health farm by pioneering naturopath Stanley Lief, but the wellbeing of mind, body and soul remains at Tring’s well-toned core.
Extensive medical and health screening services now sit alongside spa treatments, classes, tutorials and talks. You decide on how active, inactive or interactive you want to be; couch potatoes are catered for just as well as fitness fanatics or food faddists. And there’s certainly plenty to keep you busy doing nothing.
With the Rothschild Mansion ground’s 170 acres as perfectly manicured as the women leaving the nail salon, you can while away hours just admiring them from the sun-trapped terrace (the grounds, not the nails, that is!), or take a closer inspection on bike or foot.
Staff are as warm and welcoming as the serene surroundings – and the well-appointed 92 rooms provide a restful atmosphere in which to recuperate from the energy-sapping strains of daily living. And the food is absolutely divine. Such dedication to the spirit-soothing art of pampering and pleasure explains the high number of repeat visitors - and their number of devotees has just grown by one.
