Welling maintained their impressive form ahead of the end-of-season play-offs after a narrow win over Thurrock on Monday.
Harry Baker’s strike was enough to win it for the Wings as they made it five unbeaten with clean sheets in all of those matches.
There were few chances of note in Monday’s game at Park View Road and Baker (pictured)struck what turned out to be the winner with a powerful first-half strike. It was Welling’s first real chance of the game.
Loick Pires’ cross was flicked on by Scott Kinch and Baker was at the far post to smash the ball home.
Already-relegated Thurrock never allowed Welling to settle and when Jamie Day’s side did get in behind the defence they found the visiting keeper in good form. David Hughes made saves from Parkinson and Pires and there was also an effort from Ryan Flack ruled out for offside.
Baker almost doubled the lead with an impressive curling effort which hit the inside of the post.
