Two defensive lapses by Graeme Andrews handed high-flying Thurrock a share of the spoils in Blue Square South at Welling on Saturday.

Despite not playing for more than three weeks, Welling deserved to take at least a point from the game which saw both sides have their chances to claim a victory.

Welling player/boss Jamie Day - without the suspended Lee Clarke and Jake Hobbs - handed on-loan Charlton youngster Carl Jenkinson his first start at right-back and he turned in a steady display.

Thurrock took the lead on 24 minutes when Andrews' (pictured) clumsy challenge saw Leon McKenzie go down in the area and he picked himself up to slot home the penalty.

McKenzie was twice then denied a second goal as Thurrock took control but the home side got back in the game just before half-time.

Day's left-wing corner was cleared only as far as Andy Pugh and his low right-foot drive was turned in from close range by the body of Tom Whitnell.

Welling then took charge after the break and deservedly led when Sam Hurrell's shot was blocked and substitute Tony Finn pulled the rebound back for Sam Cutler, who forced the ball home at the second attempt after 59 minutes.

Thurrock's David Bryant was booked for a dive in the penalty area moments later and Welling had their chances to wrap the game up as Whitnell went close on three occasions.

However, the visitors hit back and equalised with 13 minutes left through the familiar figure of ex-Welling winger Matt Bodkin. How Welling fans must have wished former boss Andy Ford had snapped up Bodkin when he had the chance as the Thurrock man took advantage of Andrews' error and drove brilliantly home past Charlie Mitten from 25 yards.

Welling travel to Dartford in the Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Two second half goals gave Bromley a 2-0 success at Hampton in Blue Square South.

They opened the scoring after 54 minutes when Ashley Carew’s cross was met by Phil Ruggles who flicked the ball in with his heel.

The second goal came 10 minutes later when Warren McBean headed home Steve Ferguson’s cross.

Goals from George Porter and John Guest led Cray to a 2-0 victory over Hendon in the Ryman League Premier Division.
