Welling moved into the Blue Square play-off places for the first time on Tuesday night with a demolition of basement side Weymouth.

The Wings turned on the style with three goals in the last seven minutes as six different players got onto the scoresheet.

After referee Ian Bentley pulled out due to injury 24 hours before the match, S Rubery took charge and he had little to concern himself throughout the 90 minutes.

It could have been different had Weymouth not seen a shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounce out in the eighth minute.

Welling took the lead after 18 minutes when Sam Hurrell did well to keep Graeme Andrews' pass in play and his first-time cross was turned in at the near post by Jake Hobbs, who replaced the injured Tom Whitnell in the starting line-up.

The second goal arrived on the half-hour when Lee Clarke, pictured, sliced the ball over keeper Tim Sandercombe and it was 3-0 six minutes later when Hurrell ran at the visiting defence before curling home a delightful left-foot shot for, amazingly, his first league goal of the season.

There was still time before the break for Michael Deane's left-foot volley to come crashing back off the inside of the post.

Hobbs sent Clarke through two minutes into the second half but his shot was blocked and Hobbs fired the rebound just over.

Weymouth pulled one back on 61 minutes when Stephen Reed twisted and turned on the edge of the box before firing low past keeper Charlie Mitten.

But Welling restored their three-goal advantage within two minutes when Hobbs was hauled down in the box and Clarke tucked away the spot-kick.

Welling boss Jamie Day took advantage to rest himself, Clarke and then Loui Fazackerley during the second half.

Hobbs had an effort cleared off the line before Cracknell headed in the former's corner with seven minutes left to make it 5-1.

Joe Healy, on his return after signing from Beckenham, scored the sixth goal a minute later after his 20-yard shot squirmed under the body of Sandercombe before fellow substitute Michael Bakare produced a cool finish to make it 7-1 in the 89th minute.
