Welling United's points target proves to be not enough

Welling's players hit the points target set for them by the management team - but still missed out on the Blue Square Bet South play-offs.
The Wings reached 75 points, which was more than manager Jamie Day and his team believed they needed to claim a top five spot.
"We obviously got the maths wrong," laughed Day (pictured). "We set a target, looking back on previous seasons and what we thought might happen.
"We broke that target but obviously it wasn't enough. I'm proud of the boys and what they achieved this year, I thought they deserved to be in the play-offs.
"We got 75 points and 24 wins over the season which we thought would be enough."
Day admitted that it was hard to look beyond the five-point deduction for financial irregularities and admitted that it finally caught up with the club.
"if we had the five points back then we'd have ended up on 80 points," he added. "We said at the time that we weren't going to worry about it but it has caught up on us now.
"But we can't worry about it now, yes, we're disappointed but we move on.
"When you look over the whole season there are games like Chelmsford at home where we nicked a win in the last minute so it evens itself up.
"We need to cut the amount of defeats down to about seven next year, I was happy with how many games we won so if we can turn a few defeats into draws then that should be good enough."
