Supermarkets have been ranked in order of cheapness for the month of March - for which half was spent in lockdown.

Trips to Kent's supermarkets have never been as important, with shoppers going armed with long lists to stock up on essential items... but which firm has been offering the least expensive lockdown deals?

Research by consumer watchdog Which? has seen discount retailers Aldi and Lidl unsurprisingly come out on top, with just £2 separating them.

A trolley-load of 108 groceries and essential household products from each supermarket were compared against each other.

The checkout bill at Aldi came to £111, while for rival Lidl it stood at £113.

£12 more expensive than the cheapest, Asda was the least costly of the main big four supermarkets, while Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury's followed.

High-end retailer Waitrose was the most expensive, with the trolley of goods costing £64 more than Aldi.

Ranging from own-brand biscuits to the big well known products such as Hovis, a total of 108 items' prices were compared.
