Whippet survives 70ft cliff fall

OZZY the whippet enjoys a special cuddle from his owner Margaret Wright after the pet survived a 70ft fall from cliffs...without breaking a bone (Peter Barnett writes).
The 14-month-old black and white dog was out for a walk with his owner on the clifftops at Botany Bay, Kingsgate, near Margate, when the incident happened.
Mrs Wright, from Ramsgate, said: "He was playing with some other dogs and I whistled to him. Usually he just makes his way back to me but this time he put his head down and belted towards me full pelt.
“Myself and a friend watched horrified as he raced past, through tall grass and undergrowth, through shrubbery and soared straight over the edge of the cliff without stopping.
“We raced along the cliff to a slope down to the beach. I expected to find Ozzy dead but he was on his feet, clearly groggy, but alive.”
Mrs Wright waded through some of the rock pools with Ozzy in her arms and climbed to the clifftop where she telephoned the vet.
She said: "X-rays showed no signs of any breaks which is astounding given the height he fell."
