THE new Kent president Norman Wright, of Broadstairs Bowling Club, saw his team make an encouraging start to their outdoor season when they travelled to Chesham BC in Buckinghamshire to play their first Home Counties League game of the season.
The final result was Kent 115 shots and Buckinghamshire 97 shots. With five of the six rinks winning, Kent secured 20 points from a possible 22.
The highest winning rink was skipped by Lee Shoobridge of UK Paper BC, but the best recovery was made by Shaun McCaughan’s rink as they came back from 3-14 down at 10 ends to lead 16-15 at 15 ends and to eventually win 21-18.
The only rink to lose was Chris Taylor’s, and they were behind throughout the game and eventually lost 10-20.
On Saturday the annual Middleton Cup trial takes place at Sandwich BC when the selectors will be looking to select their 24-man team for this year’s campaign in the National Inter County competition.
Kent v Buckinghamshire: Home Counties League: D J Williams (Old Colfs) 22, K Trivett 16; Alan Dunn (Sandwich) 22, R Hawes 15; Chris Taylor (Folkestone Park) 10, R Gaskin 20; Nigel Luck (AEI Henley) 18, K Smith 15; Shaun McCaughan (Sandwich) 21, W Richardson 18; Lee Shoobridge (UK Paper) 22, B Long 13.
