A BRAINY Thai student has astounded Cambridge University dons by getting three A grade A-levels in a year.

Wittaya Kanchanapusakit - Witty to his friends - achieved maths in January and further maths and physics in June. Cambridge recommends students sit only two sixth term exams.

Witty, who has been studying at Rochester Independent College in Star Hill on a Thai government scholarship, also got outstanding results in three entrance papers needed for acceptance on some courses at Cambridge.

He said: "In Thailand students study seven subjects daily from 7am until 5pm. Here I seem to achieve more in a shorter day. Rochester is quiet and I can concentrate much better."

Dr Kelvin Bowkett, Cambridge University's admissions tutor, said: "Witty's results are extremely unusual and quite outstanding."

Witty now plans to study natural sciences at Cambridge Christ Church for the next three years. Later on he will do his Phd before returning to Thailand to teach physics.
