Women's Institute backs coal plant protest

When you think of your typical eco-activist you don't expect someone from the WI to be joining in.
But that's exactly what happened in July when the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition (SCC) planted flags at Kingsnorth, Hoo to show their support for the August 3-11 protest.
The press call included groups as diverse as the National Federation of Women's Institutes, Christian Aid, Greenpeace and the RSPB.
All came together in Hoo to highlight their dedication to the cause and to promote a letter urging Gordon Brown to block the Kingsnorth coal plant plan.
Ashok Sinha, Director of the SCC, said: “The variety of groups shows there is a breadth of opinion.
“It is important to show our feelings.
“It’s not just the green movement any more that is concerned about climate change, it is all of us.”
Fay Mansell, head of the WI, said: "It's a perfectly natural thing for the WI to be supporting.
"Maybe we feel more strongly about our grandchildren and their future."
