Jack Parkinson’s second half goal earned Welling back-to-back wins in Blue Square South on Saturday.

Welling had Jamie Day, who is expected to take over as manager on Monday, in the stands and deserved the three points after dominating the game for long periods.

They should have led after an impressive first half display. Tony Finn twice went close in the first 13 minutes before Michael Deane’s left-foot drive went just over.

Worcester’s only chance came a minute before the break when referee Ron Ganfield intercepted Lee Clarke’s pass and the ball fell kindly to Alfie Carter but he blazed his left-foot shot wide from inside the area.

The only goal of the game came 10 minutes into the second half when Finn’s cross was headed down by Tommy Whitnell and Parkinson (pictured) hooked the ball home from close range.

Clarke was called into action as a central midfielder and he didn’t let his side down on his first start in a Welling shirt since August. It was his best display so far for the club, especially as the Wings also lost their only recognised midfielder Ryan Johnson through injury early on.

Clarke could have easily added a second after good work by Whitnell and Finn but shot straight at keeper Ben Hinchcliffe.

Graeme Andrews’ weak back pass let in Matt Dinsmore but his low shot was saved by the legs of Charlie Mitten.

Worcester’s best chance came seven minutes from time but Mitten produced a fine save to deny Craig Wilding’s shot from the edge of the box.
