Teenagers from Medway have been promoting a new DVD aimed at helping under-achievers.

Students from Medway’s Key Stage 4 Engagement Project got together for the disc launch held at MidKent College’s Horsted campus.

It forms part of a project offering help to pupils aged 14-16 whose behaviour, attendance or social circumstances are acting as barriers to their learning and achievement.

The project involves five different programmes aimed at increasing students performance and improve their chances of progressing to further education, training or employment.

Students have the opportunity to take part in a range of work-related activities, and receive personal advice and guidance.

Students appeared in the film and spoke about the changes taking part in the project had brought to their lives.

Darryl Chance, 15, is among the youngsters taking part. He said: “This is a great project.

"I’ve been involved in mixing and editing the DVD and the programme I’ve been attending has given me the opportunity to get on to a BTEC course.”

Rose Collinson, Medway Council’s director of children and adult services said: “I am really impressed with these programmes and the efforts of all the students involved.

“Learning isn’t always easy. It starts with confidence and continues with the determination to work hard and stick with it.

“This film showcases students who have done just that and are now on track to being very employable people. I’d like to give my heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved.”

The project is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families through the Learning and Skills Council.

It has been supported by Crime reduction charity Nacro, Medway Youth Service, MidKent College, and Medway Education Business Partnership.
