You've had the big chill - now get set for the thaw
11:24, 06 January 2009
Kent's big chill is set to thaw over the next few days.
Parts of the county ground to a halt this week as temperatures across Kent plummeted to below -5C.
But experts say the weather is set to improve over coming days.
The Met Office issued a severe weather warning overnight, urging motorists driving on untreated roads and pavements to be careful. Surfaces left wet from yesterday's sleet and snow had led to widespread icy roads.
But John Hammond, forecaster for the Met Office, warned Kent residents shouldn't be packing away their hot water bottles any time soon.
He said: "It's going to be another cold night tonight but it will dry. The coldest of the weather should be over now, but parts of the county could still see lows of around minus four degrees Celsius."
