Kent cricket head coach Jimmy Adams is waiting for side to click in LV= County Championship Division 2

Jimmy Adams admits Kent are ‘yet to click’ this season but hopes they can showcase their promotion credentials when they entertain big-guns Surrey this week.
On the eve of the season the Kent head coach and skipper Rob Key targeted a strong start to establish their side in the promotion-chase in LV= County Championship Division 2.
However a heavy defeat at Worcestershire and a rain-affected draw against Leicestershire have left Kent second-bottom ahead of the visit of Surrey, who are bottom, beginning on Sunday.
Adams admitted the start had: “Given us enough to reflect on as a squad going forward, we have had a bit of time off which allowed us to have a good look at the last two games.”
The former West Indies captain claimed the key was: “Generally just being a little bit more consistent in our cricket – I think that’s the main thing for me.
“If you are going to grow as a team, and eventually come out of Division 2 cricket, it’s going to come on the back of consistency, and I think that’s an area that we have to improve on.”
Adams is keen for the squad to deliver on a more consistent basis.
He admitted: “In a sense we’re waiting for everything to click.
“If you’re not exhibiting that level of consistency then you won’t get the returns over and over again, and that’s what we want – we want to build a team that can perform consistently.
“I’m not necessarily saying that you’re going to win games or win every game, but there’s a level of consistency that you come to expect, and we’re not there yet – we’re still a work in progress.
“Having players getting starts and going on to make big scores and being disciplined in our bowling, are areas that we need to focus on going forward, because I think we have players here capable of achieving both those targets.
“The two games have given us a lot to think about, and we’ll certainly do that and hopefully we’ll see signs come the game against Surrey.
“Everybody is looking forward to it. They are one of the teams that we can measure ourselves against, they’ve just come down and it will give us an idea of where we are.
“It is a motivating factor mixing it against teams who have good players, a few names in the team. If that doesn’t motivate you nothing will.
“Over the years we have shown desire to do well against these teams and make a name for yourself.
“It’s something to gee the lads up to get something out of the game.”
