Charlton were the latest victims of Championship leaders Leicester, losing 3-0 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
It was the first time struggling Charlton had lost to the Foxes in 11 matches but they were up against it from the moment Jamie Vardy gave the hosts a sixth-minute lead from David Nugent’s pass.
City, who are 14 games unbeaten at the top of the league, doubled their lead three minutes after the break when Danny Drinkwater finished the loose ball after Ben Hamer saved from Nugent.
Richard Wood sent a header over for the visitors but Charlton conceded again on 64 minutes with Nugent’s 20-yard strike beating Hamer.
Addicks Chris Powell admitted Charlton were beaten by the better team.
He said: “They’re a phenomenal side, easily the best we’ve played this year.
“If you came away from Leicester with a point, you’d be happy with it the way they’re playing.”
The Addicks remain a point adrift of safety but have three games in hand on nearest rivals Millwall.
